Thursday July 29 Rained hard all night. It was most welcome all through the end as the drouth has been most serious. We had breakfast at the Millbrook Inn and left Millbrook N.Y. for Newfane Vermont. We drove Sharon + Canaan Conn to Ashley Falls, Sheffield Great Barrington and Pittsfield Mass. At Sheffield I called on the Buckingham a customer of ours who had quite recently bought out a Country Store there. At Pittsfield we had lunch at the Hotel Wendell. Rotary Club were having lunch there, (I was too late to participate) Saw and talked with George Cooper and Bert Brewer. Rain ceased while we were eating our lunch. Drove over the Berkshire Trail, Dalton to Lithia to Ashfield Shelburn Falls, Greenfield, to Brattleboro Vermont. Left Sarah at Camp Arden for the night. (the girls at camp were wild to see her there,) then we came on up here to this delightful old Newfare Inn at Newfare Vermont. Drove 167 miles today, two bad detours.
