Sunday June 13 Left New Haven today at noon for Philadelphia with the New Haven Grays to take an active and important part in the opening of the Sesqi Centennial Exposition celebrating the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Several of us veteran members of the Grays marched on the staff of Captain Holloway We stopped for lunch on the way down at the Pennsylvania Station in New York. Arrived at Philadelphia at about six o'clock and were quartered at the Robert Morris Hotel. This hotel was named after Robert Morris treasurer of the colonies during the Revolution. I am roomed with Arthur Beers and Carl Ballmann, both good and tried friends of long standing. The Grays took as their guests Capt. Gessner who was captain of the Active Company at the Centennial, fifty years ago, and Mayor John B. Tower a veteran of the grays.
