Tuesday, August 16, 1927 Rotary at the Hotel Taft. The speakers were two members of the London, England Rotary Clubs. They were in this country to attend the Directors Meeting at Chicago. They were so charming and had a wonderful message. Meeting at the armory on Meadow Street tonight of the 111th Anniversary Committee of the New Haven Grays. Jon Hedges brought me home in his car. Alice Drew Lockwood and Sarah Drew Ballard here tonight. They had spent the day at Morningside with the Burgess. So good to see them and have them in our home. Judge Gary, chairman of the Board of the United States Steel Corporation, died today. --- (Alice and Sarah are sisters and are both Vernon's first cousins.)
