Sunday, January 16, 1927 Buried under a white mantle of snow. Stormed all night and is drifting badly today. State Highway Department are already plowing out the roads with their big plows. The Waterbury Trolly Cars are coming through alright. Went into Church and School and because it is my birthday on next Tuesday, the school gave me a big box of beautiful pink carnations and a book by William Lyon Phelps entitled "Adventures and Confessions". It was so lovely of them to remember. Truman and Bertha Beckley called this afternoon. Shoveled snow of walks and out of back yard. George Young, 17 years old, of Toronto Canada won the swim from Catalina Island to California coast and took the prize offered by Wingley of $25,000.00. He was the only one of 102 starters to finish. He was in the water 15 hours and 45 minutes. [Prev](1927_01_15.md) - [Next](1927_01_17.md) <img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/d/11DdVLUGwFBzEkZuc6PbFRLrkkvqw46fX">
