Saturday, March 12, 1927 Worked at the store all day as we were pretty busy in the Wall Paper Department. Came home in time to dress for the Chamber of Commerce dinner at the Hotel Taft. Herbert Hoover, secretary of commerce on President Coolidge's cabinet was the speaker and he addressed us on the subject of the "Shipway from the Great Lakes to the Ocean through the St. Laurence River". He is hopeful that this plan would be adopted instead of the so called all New York way across New York state. His speech was broadcasted through seventeen stations. President John C. Tracy of the Chamber introduced the speaker and congressman John L. Tillson also spoke. Called for T.P.H. at Woolsey Hall, who had attended the concert of the Smith College Glee Club.
