Tuesday, November 1, 1927 New Haven Community Chest Drive started this morning. I spoke this morning at the Malleys Department Store at 8-45 in the interest of the chest. Rotary lunch at Hotel Taft this noon. William Lyon Phelps "Billy" spoke on "Chicago Americanism". Took the four o'clock to Springfield store. Had dinner at Hotel Kimball with Harley, Mr. Love, Mr. Shepherd, and Mr. Pomeroy of the Bryan Hardware Co. Harley and I drove home, leaving there at about midnight and arriving home at two a.m. in a pouring rain.
