Saturday, October 1, 1927 Fearfully hot day. Thermometer went up over 80°. We kept open all day at the store for the first time. The football season opened at Yale today and it was more like baseball weather. Many men sat all through the game in their shirt sleeves. A most unusual sight. Yale won 40 to 0. Her opponent today was Bowdoin College of Brunswick, Maine. Bowdoin put up a good fight but was outclassed. Both teams put in many substitutes on account of the heat. The Rev. Father John Coyle of St. John's Roman Catholic Church died today. He had been pastor there for many years and was much beloved. Bill Webster is captain at Yale this year and Tad Jones is head coach. This is to be Tad's last season. He resigned some time ago. [Prev](1927_09_30.md) - [Next](1927_10_02.md) <img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/d/1v8W5PAmKNTjWTicHKN8pShx6Ayj6_kqQ">
