Back to the office this morning after a week in New York. Miss Mundie had looked after things in good shape. It was fearfully hot and all were glad that we were to close at one o'clock. T.P.H. came in for me and we spent the afternoon outdoors under the big hickory tree. The official temperature was 97° but some thermometers showed 100 in the shade. This has been by far the hottest day of the year. It is still hot tonight. Too hot to go to bed.
