Monday, July 23, 1928 Clear and hot again today with a terrific thunder shower at midnight that did a great deal of damage. Cellars were filled, trees blown down, and crops ruined. Had lunch at Quinnipiack Club. Called at the Calvary Baptist Church where we are redecorating all through. Home tonight. Worked in the garden till dark. Planted cucumbers, hoed the dahlias, and weeded beets. The Polis chain of New England Theatres have been sold to the Fox interests for twenty six million dollars.
