Thursday, July 26, 1928 Beautiful Summer day. Warm but not too hot. Drove up to the Springfield store today. Called up Ruth Curtiss Donovan and asked her to with me. But on account of Howard coming on today and their sailing from Baltimore for Bahia, Brazil early in August, she could not go, having so much to do to get ready. Had lunch with Mr. Page at the Hotel Kimball. Went over to the Bryan Hdw Co., Westfield, Mass. and fixed up their Wall Paper windows and then drove on down home in time for dinner. After dinner, I worked in the garden till dark spading up for the last planting of sweet corn. Gene Turney Champion, heavy weight of the world, defended his title and defeated Tom Heeney of Australia tonight at the Yankee Stadium winning in the eleventh round of a fifteen round fight.
