Wednesday, May 30, 1928 Memorial Day. Stores closed all day. Worked in the garden all day long. Planted corn, beans, carrots, lettuce, beets, radishes, and set out some tomato plants. Beautiful day. Clear and not too hot up till about six o'clock when a sudden shower came up which put an end to my farming. Glad to get a start. It has been so rainy and cold. Sarah had to work at Yale Drama School but got away this afternoon and took a crowd of drama school students over to East River for a swing (Br! Br! Br!). They said it was fine but added that they did not stay in very long. We let our furnace fire out today for the first time. This is the latest we have run it.
