Mighty cold this morning. The thermometer down to 21°. Did not go above 27° all day long. Coldest day of the year so far. Nathan B. Fitch, former captain of the Grays died today of pneumonia. He had been sick only a short time. Had supper in town and met T.P.H. and Sarah at the Yale Theatre to see the Carolina Play-makers of Chapel Hill, N.C. play three one act plays. They were really very good. Received a bag of nuts from Atlanta, Georgia sent to us by Alice Drew Lockwood on their to California for the Winter.
