Friday, October 12, 1928 This is "Columbus Day" but it does not mean a holiday. Only to the banks and City Hall. It seemed mighty good to get back to the office. Mrs. Wood had taken care of everything splendidly to the best of her ability. It is terribly hot again today, hotter than many days this Summer, making up for some of the cold, wet days of last July and August. Attended a meeting of the Broadway Association at 4 o'clock. We discussed the traffic problem on Broadway. Home tonight to dinner for the first time in a good many days and it is a fine feeling to enjoy. The newspapers reported (Saturday) that the thermometer rose to 87 degrees. A record October heat for many years.
