Friday, April 19, 1929 At Hotel Bond, Hartford, attending Spring Conference of 30th Rotary District. Had breakfast with group discussing Rotary extension. Morning session held in Ball Room. Dr. Gilkey, of Springfield, chief speaker. Nominations for District Governor followed. Wallace Hutton of the New Haven Club nominated me. Ed Hagleton of the Turners Falls Club seconded it as did a member of the Ansonia Club. There being no other nominations, the secretary was instructed to cast one unanimous ballot for Vernon H. Hodges of the New Haven Club. The men were very nice to me about it. At the luncheon, the conference presented Joseph Schulz with a Royal Typewriter with check characters. Harley came up in time to see me nominated. I came down home with him. This evening, we attended the light show at the Yale Theatre. --- ("Royal" is the brand of typewriter and I assume he means it had Czechoslovakian letters.)
