Tuesday, August 13, 1929 Rotary Club luncheon at Hotel Taft ball room. I spoke on the "International Assembly". It was a hard subject to make interesting. I had to try and cover four days and two evenings sessions in a half hour. Some friends in the club presented me with a large basket of Gladiolus. They were beautiful. I sent a few of them home to Mrs. Lovell by "George", our president. Brought the rest of them home to Tess. We went over and called on Violette tonight. Took her some of the flowers also. She is very much broken over Ruth's going, poor dear. How she does grieve for her. We had a postcard from Sarah today. She spent her birthday in Littledean and visited the house where I was born. --- (Here is [the postcard](<Postcard from Sarah, 1929.md>) Sarah sent, though it was in the 1930 diary.)
