Tuesday, December 24, 1929 The day before Christmas and a real Christmas weather. Clear, not too cold, and snow covering the ground from the storm of yesterday. Tessie and Sarah busy all day finishing up their Christmas shopping. Later, Sally delivered the gifts to her friends and the family. Peter is with us and we trimmed the tree then we piled the heaps of packages about it and then played Christmas Carols on the Edison. At midnight, we four opened our packages (Mother and Father had gone to bed early) and had much fun as we so thankfully received the things that love had prompted the giving. Sally was so happy to have Peter with her on the first Christmas since their engagement. We all went to bed at two o'clock. The Executive Offices at the White House, Washington D.C. burned tonight.
