Wednesday, June 26, 1929 This has been a day of heartache for the Hodges family. We had a cablegram from Howard Donovan, Rio de Janiro telling us that our Ruth Curtiss had passed away last night. We had no details other than that it was from some sudden operation. Howard was away on a business trip when it happened. I went out and told Violette about it. Poor girl is heart broken over it. Ruth was her first born and we all loved her dearly. Howard will sail from Bahia, Brazil about July 5th, bringing Ruth to New Haven for burial. We all do so wish that there was something that we could do to help lighten the load, but there is none. Only a mother can suffer and understand in a time like this.
