A beautiful day. It is Derby Day with its boat race on the Housatonic River at Derby. Yale entertained Columbia and Penn crews and in four races, Columbia won all four. This is the first time in seven years that Yale has lost the varsity event. T.P.H. and I drove down to Semon's Colonade at Oyster River Woodmont to the annual dinner of the Conn. Wallpaper and Paint Bowling League. I spoke and presented the cup to the winning team representing Booth and Law. Leonard Barker came in to see me this afternoon and talked about his desire to marry Sarah. We had such a good heart to heart talk and I was much impressed with his sincerity.
