Cloudy all day and misty tonight. This is Friday the 13th and the 113th Anniversary of the New Haven Grays. We held the outing at Lake Compounce, Bristol, Conn. The crowd went up in busses leaving the Armory on Meadow Street at two o'clock but I was busy at the store so could not get away till later. Sally and Peter took me up in the Packard. We had a fine dinner, a Lake Compounce sheep bake. I rode home with Jack Dyer, Charles McClelland, and Harry Chatfield. As I was writing this page, my telephone rang and Goodwich Gesner called me from Plainville and me that an automobile collision had occurred and Captain "Pete" Booth, First Lieut. Harry Dorr, and two privates were concerned. Pete Booth was killed instantly and the others badly injured. A sad ending to a happy celebration of our 113 anniversary on Friday the 13th.
