Friday, April 25, 1930 In New York at Hotel Commodore. Arose at seven thirty and had breakfast with Don and Marion Adams, John and Mrs. Nelion of Canada. The ladies were taken on a boat ride around Manhattan Island. We assembled for the opening of the conference. Some wonderful speakers. Luncheon at noon in the Grand Ball Room of the five New York City clubs. Dan Polling was the speaker and he spoke on "The man who can is the man who will". He was wonderful. Afternoon sessions, at which I spoke on "Rotary Fundamentals and Functions". It was a rotten speach. Big dinner at night. The speaker, Tom Skeyhill, subject "Mussolini and the Black Shirts". He spoke for an hour and a half without a note. Don and Marion, Tess and I came up on the 11-30 train.
