Pouring rain all day long. Much better than snow. In at the store all day and till ten o'clock tonight. My cold is some better although I cough pretty hard. Charles Evans Hughes, who was appointed by President Hoover to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to succeed William Howard Taft, resigned, was ratified by the U.S. Senate today 52 to 26. There was some opposition to him by the western republican group on the grounds that he was favorable to "Big Business"
