Not quite so warm today, rather cloudy. At a meeting of the Retail Division of the Chamber of Commerce. The leading merchants of New Haven voted to close their stores at one o'clock on Saturdays during July and August. A bad situation had existed heretofore. Some stores were closing Wednesday afternoons and some on Saturdays. This effort today was to make it more uniform. The department stores held the key to the situation and decided to make it Saturday. Kittie Miller and Estella Pratt invited Mother, Sally, Peter, and me to dinner tonight at the Prattonia, 118 Howe Street. This was a courtesy on their part to Sarah as a premarital party. We had a lovely dinner and a good visit
