Wednesday, June 25, 1930 At Chicago attending the International Convention of Rotary. The silver anniversary. Got up at 6-30 to attend a breakfast of the outgoing district governors at the Hotel Stevens at 7-30 A.M. then went out to the stadium to the morning session. George Lovell and I rode back in this noon with Ray Knoeppel, who with Al Roth, was nominated this morning for president of Rotary International. Spent the afternoon looking up members of my district. T.P.H. went on a boat ride on Lake Michigan. We had dinner together tonight at the Stevens then went out to the auditorium to the Presidents Ball. Met a Mr. and Mrs. Luther Hodges from North Carolina. I think he must be a distant relation of ours. Very hot again today but not quite so hot as Monday. --- (Luther Hodges could be Gov. Luther Hartwell Hodges, though he wouldn't be governor until 1954. He would also serve as Secretary of Commerce in 1961. I could not find a connection between Vernon and Luther Hodges.
