Pouring rain all day long. Took the Packard in this morning and up to Jimmies to have the radiator fixed so that it would not heat up. Worked till six o'clock. Had dinner at home and spent the evening at home. William Howard Taft, former President and former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court died in Washington D.C. today at 5-15 P.M. He was in his 73rd year and had been critically ill for the past few weeks. Mr. Taft was the only man in history to have been President of the U.S. and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. He will be buried in Arlington Cemetery. New Haven knew Judge Taft well. He graduated from Yale in '78 and came many time to the reunions. He also resided in New Haven for several years after leaving the White House
