Thursday, March 20, 1930 A beautiful day. Went in to the store early, took care of my mail for the day. Sarah called for me at 11-30 and we came home and had lunch and T.P.H. and I started at once for Pittsfield, Mass. to attend the Tenth Anniversary of the Pittsfield Rotary Club. My cold was so distressing that I thought I should not go but the day was so beautiful and I didn't want to disappoint my Pittsfield friends so we went. We drove via Waterbury, Tarrington, Norfolk, Lenox, and to Pittsfield. We stopped at the Lenox School and called on Nat Noble. He showed us all around the buildings. We drove on direct to George Cooper's house and rested a bit before dressing for dinner. The party was held in the new ball room of the Hotel Wendell and was a nice affair. President Bill Root called on me to speak but on account of my wretched cold, I did very badly.
