Thursday, May 1, 1930 In Holyoke at the Hotel Nonotuck attending the Spring Conference of 30th District Rotary International. Very warm today. Heavy thunder showers. Opening session of the conference at 10-30. Large attendance for the opening session. Luncheon at noon with a big crowd present to hear "Private Peat speak on the 'Inexcusable Lie'". Assembly meeting this afternoon with the big banquet tonight. About 550 attended. International Board member David Clark of Charlotte, North Carolina, was the chief speaker. He brought us a fine Rotary message. Jim Gunn, on behalf of the district, presented me with a Victor radio and phonograph instrument. I was so surprised and delighted for we have never had a radio in our home.
