Tuesday, May 20, 1930 Still very cool. Meeting this morning of the Retail Division of the Chamber of Commerce to consider the closing of the stores during the Summer. We met on the top floor of the store, Jo Johnsons Sons. For the first time, the sentiment seemed to be for closing Saturday afternoons during July and August. Rotary Club luncheon at Hotel Taft. Dick Dodge of the Willimantic club, district governor nominee, was present as my guest. Later, he spent the afternoon with me going over district matters in my office. I attended and spoke at a Rotary School for new members at a dinner at Hotel Taft this evening. Floyd Newton, chairman of the education committee, presided.
