Rained more or less all day. Spoke for the Community Chest at the Gamble Desmond Co. Department Store at nine o'clock this morning. Drove out to West Haven this noon with Harley to the first luncheon of the West Haven Rotary Club. Jim Thwing gave them a good talk. Called on Charles P. Walker and talked over with him matters regarding the Pastorate of Calvary Church. Tessie called for me tonight and we had dinner at home. Then I went over to see Violette. She has been sick for a few days with a hard cold. The newspapers report this morning that Dr. Wilbur L. Cross, Democratic nominee for governor, was elected yesterday. All the rest of the Republican ticket was elected. This is a great tribute to Dean Cross. It is the first time in twenty years that Connecticut has elected a Democratic Governor
