Rain, clearing tonight. George W. Hanbury, representing Robert F. Hobbs Co., visited us today. I took him down to the New Haven Rotary Club luncheon at the Hotel Taft. It was served in the Ball Room today because we had the ladies with us. It was a music day, in charge of the music committee. A very fine program. Met this afternoon at Quinnipiack Club with a committee appointed by Mayor Tower of New Haven for the relief of unemployment. I was appointed chairman of the committee for improvement of the homes in order to give work to as many men as possible. Jessie Hodges of Shanghai and England has been spending the day with Tessie. We took her into the Shubert to see "Evolution". Was not such a pleasing play. We met Harley and Alice there and they took Jess home with them.

(This has to be a mistake. Mayor Tower passed away in 1928. Vernon must mean Mayor Tully.
