Fearfully hot and muggy and rain. Announcement came to us over the radio tonight at 6:12:30 E.S.T. that Captain Dieudonne Coste and Maurice Bellonte of France had landed at Curtiss Field, Long Island and had completed the first westward airplane flight across the North Atlantic from France to New York without a single stop. Their time was 37 hours, 18 minutes, 30 seconds. Eight aviators had previously tried this feat but had died in the attempt. Colonel Charles Lindberg was at Curtiss Field to greet these French heroes who had backtracked his route from New York to Paris made three years ago.
