A beautiful day and we had planned to up to Middletown and have dinner with Cousin Carrie and Cousin Howard so after breakfast I drove the Packard into Calvary to church school and taught my mens class. Then came away before church and started home so as to give Tessie plenty of time to start. Coming through Whitneyville, a young Italian driver stopped suddenly ahead of me and I crashed into him as I could not pull out far enough and quick enough to pass him. The good old Packard was pretty well smashed up and I drove him across the sidewalk into the wire fence. I had no chance at all to avoid him. It upset me terribly and I just sat in a chair all day long, my nerves all on edge. Mother went over to Miss Voose tea. She is to be married on Tuesday. Miss Voose I mean, not Mother.
