Sunday, August 9, 1931 A much better day today. Hot but not so hot. Had a good sleep then a good breakfast, prepared as usual by my first wife. Then I drove in town to Calvary Church. Mr. E.M. McNeil Poteat of Raleigh, N.C. preached for us a second time and he was so fine. his father, E.M. Poteat Sr. with his wife was in the congregation (this Mrs. Poteat is not McNeil's mother. She died a good while ago. This is a second wife.) Came home and we three had dinner together, Mother, Sarah and I. We read and wrote letters all afternoon. We had our supper in the sun room. Then Sarah and I walked down to Glendowe's Drug Store for ice cream cones. We listened to "Seth Parker" over the radio then went to bed. Peter called Sally up on the phone from Stockbridge, Mass.
