Cloudy and humid all day. Hard thunder shower about five o'clock this afternoon. Worked all day long on selecting new wall paper for 1932 book line. Had supper in town then dropped into the "Globe" movie house for an hour to wait till eight o'clock, when I attended a hearing in City Hall before a special committee of the Board of Alderman asking for the appropriation of seven hundred thousand dollars for the relief of the unemployed this Winter. Many men and women attended and spoke of the need. Some of them were Harry Knight of the S.N.E. Tel. Co., Rev. Dr. Maurer, pastor of Center Church, Edgar Heermance, president New Haven Rotary Club and many others. Peter is still down from Stockbridge waiting for Sarah's baby to put in an appearance.
