On the Milwaukee R. Rd. somewhere between St. Paul and Chicago when I awoke. Arrived Chicago 8-10 A.M. at the Union Station. Took a Posnnalee Transfer Bus over to the Illinois Central Station. It was raining so hard that I got my breakfast at the station and sat and waited for train time. Called up Edna Chittenden Hull and Aunt Mabel Wilby on the telephone. Left Chicago at 11 A.M. Had lunch and dinner on the train and passed from 1931 to 1932 somewhere between Buffalo and Albany. The visit to our dear ones in St. Paul has been a great joy and very much worth the trip. Tessie will spend a few more days with them and come home. We wish 1931 goodbye with mingled feelings of joy and disappointment. Joy and thankfulness for preserving for us our dear Sally and for giving us our darling "Peter" but regretful that the year had to bring to so many suffering and worry. May God give us a New Year of brighter days and may we live so as to deserve it.
