Mild and clear today. Went to Springfield store today on the 10-20 train. Had lunch in "Waldorf". Brought some new furniture for the new showroom space they have arranged for Wall Paper in the Springfield store. Came down home on the 4-30. Tessie and Eleanor Peck met me at the station. We came home and had dinner at home. A great event of worldwide interest took place today when Pope Pius XI broadcasting twice within an hour and a half sent the voice of the Vatican around the world for the first time in the history of the Catholic Church. This was from the new Vatican City, Rome radio station, just installed. He spoke the first time in Latin, the second in Italian.
