We came upon this New Year somewhere in New York state between Buffalo and Albany, on our way home from Chicago and a visit for the holidays with Sarah and Peter. We arrived at Springfield, Mass at eight a.m., checked our bags, and walked over to the Hotel Kimball for breakfast. Caught the nine o'clock train for New Haven and hired a taxi to bring us and our bags to Spring Glen. We found everything in good order and a regular Christmas scene, the ground covered deep with snow and ice. Mrs. Gere, our neighbor, who had taken good care of our cat "Mitzi", invited us over to dinner. We spent the afternoon unpacking and enjoying the stacks of Christmas cards that had come in our absence. We called Sarah on the phone at Chicago. She was pleased to hear from us.
