Tuesday, November 17, 1931 Misty moisty day all day and quite warm. Rotary luncheon at Hotel Taft this noon. Prof. Scott of Yale spoke on "Unemployment and the Machine Age". He gave us a fine talk. Our Community Chest total today reached $761,829.00, leaving $77,249 more to raise by Thursday night to reach the goal of $838,078.00. We hope to go over the top all right. Went down and selected some Christmas cards for Sarah and Peter and little Peter of course. Mr. Matlack of the Geo D. Wetherill Co. here today. We signed the papers regarding their goods on our fourth floor. Mrs. Blanton called me up today and invited Tessie and me to have Thanksgiving dinner with them. It was mighty sweet of them. They just knew we would be all alone. We had to decline as we had invited Fred and Alice Lockwood to have dinner here with us. We appreciated their kindness just the same.
