Monday, January 25, 1932 A beautiful day like a day in late Fall. Not a bit of snow or ice. Tessie and I had breakfast together in our breakfast nook, the first time in about five weeks. Then she took me in to town. Had lunch at P. Ring's then went down to St. Paul Church to the funeral of Noble Ellis. About 150 veterans and actives attended in a body. A great turn out to do honor to a great man. The bearers were Ted Crabb, Ben Baker, Harry Ward, Jerry Simpson, Harry Darr, and myself. We buried him in Evergreen Cemetery, where he had so many times decorated the graves of other Grays. Tessie called for me tonight and we had dinner at home. We drove in town to call on Truman and Bertha Beckley. Found Bertha too ill to be seen. Had a talk with Truman. He is quite worried about her flowing and her heart. --- (Vernon included [a newspaper clipping for the funeral](<Newspaper Clipping from January 26, 1932.md>).)
