Scorching hot day up to noon then a big drop caused by the heavy showers of last night. Franklin D. Roosevelt was nominated for President at Chicago last night on the fourth ballot, receiving 945 votes. John N. Garner of Texas was chosen as Vice President candidate. Governor Roosevelt made new political history by asking the convention to prolong its session while he flew by plane from Albany to Chicago to accept the nomination rather than have the delegates assemble again in about a month and formally notify him of his nomination. We heard his speech over the radio. The heavy withdrawal of funds from the banks of the city eased up today quite a bit. The hope is that is has now stopped.
