Wednesday, July 27, 1932 A very hard thunder shower early this morning and heavy rain. Been very hot and muggy all day. Tessie took me into the store. Sarah came to the store this noon after being at the dentists all morning. I went with her up to the Broadway Bank and they paid her the first dividend of 20% on her savings account. This bank closed about Christmas time and this is the first payment. They are also paying 10% on commercial accounts. Newspapers say that the Congressman John. Q. Tilson, who has served the second Connecticut district in the House for twenty-two years, will resign and will not be a candidate for reelection.
