Another fine day. A bit cooler but not cold. I left Tessie in bed and drove in town with the Packard. Got breakfast in Longley's and kept busy all morning dictating letters to Mrs. Wood. I drove over to Branford and spoke at the Branford Rotary Club on "Rotary Membership". This club conferred an honorary membership on James B. Thwing, who was the organizer of that club. Home tonight to dinner. Tessie is feeling better tonight. We wrote letters to Sarah at St. Paul and listened to a campaign speech by Alfred E. Smith of New York, given in an Armory in Newark, N.J. in behalf of the democratic candidates, Roosevelt and Garner. It was a bigoted speech, barking back to his own campaign and defeat in 1928.
