Poured rain all day long. We called for Dorothy Graner down on Bedford Avenue and took her into the Yale Library, where she works. Tessie went up to the Hamden Town Hall this morning and swore in her taxes. Harley went up to the Springfield store. His eye is so bad, Alice had to drive for him. On August 21st last when visiting Paul Kieser up on Blandford, Mass. mountains, I lost my little engagement book for 1932. Today, it was returned to me by a Mr. C.B. Affleck of Springfield, Mass., who found it on the "Soapstone Quarry Trail". I sure am glad to have it back and appreciate his kindness very much. Listened in on a speech by "Al" Smith of New York, given in Boston in the interests of Roosevelt and Garner. It was awful. He attempted to again arouse the bitterness of 1928 between Protestants and Catholics.
