Very cold this morning. About 20°. Found a flat tire on the Packard so started to walk to the trolly. Our neighbor, Mr. Russell, picked me up and took me in town. Had breakfast at Longley's. I visited all the merchants on Broadway, Dixwell Ave. up as far as Lake Place, Howe Street, Elm, and York inviting them to participate in the lighting of the Christmas Tree on the upper Broadway Green. We all met there at 5-30 P.M. Mr. Bennett of Beecher Bennett and Lincoln presented the tree to the city in the absence of Mayor Murphy. I accepted for Broadway and New Haven. Beecher Bennett + Lincoln paid all the expenses of erecting and lighting the tree. Harley went to New York today to see Mr. Green of the United Wall Paper Co. to see about a settlement.
