Saturday, December 24, 1932 Warm and cloudy showers tonight. At the store all day till five tonight. Tessie busy getting packages delivered to the children of relatives and close friends. No gifts are being exchanged in the family among the adults on account of the shortage of money due to the depression. It is a strange Christmas Eve for us. Forever since Sarah was born, she has been with us on the night happily helping with the tree and the distribution of gifts and we do miss her. But the World moves on and changes come. So we trimmed our little tree, lighted it brightly, waited till midnight, then opened our few gifts, made lovingly each one to the other and each one bravely smiling to keep up the spirits of the other. Tessie has been a brick.
