Muggy and rainy. This has been a hard disheartening day. Harley and I had to interview every one of our employees regarding their wages and in each case to very radically reduce their weekly pay. We had to let Mr. Robert Hyde, George Olson, and Ed Davies go in New Haven and Mr. Page in Springfield. Every employee remaining took the great change good naturedly and promised their support. Harley and I took the 1-40 train for Springfield store. We met the employees there. We had to tell Mr. Page that we had no place for him in the reconstruction plans. He was much upset. The rest of the force promised their support. It may be that we will send Roy Hall to manage the Springfield store. We came home on the 6-30 train. We got a lunch in Springfield station.
